The Islamic Cultural Advice (ICA) service is the counselling department in Azhari Consultancy & Training (ACT).
ICA works to enhance the lives of individuals, families, and groups through offering ‘Talk Therapy’. Our approach is based on the principles of Tazkiyat (Islamic self-purification) to lend a helping hand to those experiencing issues including depression, anxiety and family conflict.
Our ICA consultants are DBS checked and qualified in Islamic Cultural Advising. They receive regular supervised reviews to meet our ICA Code of Conduct ensuring impartiality, confidentiality and accountability.
Awadalla Youssef Al-Azhari (Sheikh) is a Scholar and Islamic Consultant. He has been living in Manchester, UK since 1991. He is the founder and Rector of The Open School for Arabic and Islamic Studies (OSAIS)since 1994. In addition, Sheikh is the Principal Consultant of Azhari Consultancy & Training (ACT) since 2013.

Sheikh has been trained in traditional Islamic scholarship with an unbroken line of transmission back to our Beloved Imam of Al Anbiya, Rasool Allah (Sall Allahu ‘Alyhi Wa Sallam). Sheikh excelled at Qur’aan and Arabic language since a very young age. He started teaching with Ijazat from his Sheikhs (respected teachers) when he was around 16 years old. He was blessed to learn from several renowned Arab as well as non-Arab ‘Ulama. For instance, Sheikhs who learnt from Imam Sheikh Ahmed Al Zayyat and Imam Sheikh Rizq Habbah – references in Qiraat of the Holy Qur’aan – Al Azhar, Egypt. Sheikh has taught in schools, universities and Darul Ulooms. Sheikh has taught and trained some Imams and young scholars who serve in different Mosques and institutes.
In parallel to this scholastic tradition, Sheikh has also acquired a range of higher education and postgraduate qualifications including Bachelor’s degree, three Masters and PhD, primarily in Social Sciences and Education. The Sheikh is a qualified Cultural Consultant, providing social, cultural and educational counselling across a wide range of services.
With the Blessing of Allah (T), the Sheikh’s background and experiences have provided him the opportunities to analyse modern day issues affecting not just Muslims but the community at large, and how we can have greater social cohesion to serve Islam, as one Ummah, and with the spirit of Sahabat (Radi Allahu ‘Anhum). Sheikh has been a leading member who has a great share in various activities including Shoora (consultation) with the scholars, interfaith forums/dialogue and social cohesion work groups.
Sheikh is a dedicated professional who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in education, teaching, training, counselling and emotional health, to offer all those working with children, young people and adults of all ages. Sheikh is passionate about improving people’s emotional resilience and mental health, believing this empowers them to maximize their opportunities and life-chances. He has also been counselling in his capacity as Imaam and chaplain over several decades.
